I started Advanced Power Technologies in May of 1999 because I saw a real need by electric utilities for products that just didn't take data, but actually solved some real problems to extend the life, capacity, and reliability of major substation equipment. I like to think of my products as expert systems in a box.

You might ask why am I interested in solving these problems?

I am an experienced electronic design engineer with over 27 years of experience. After stints at various companies as a design, project, and director of engineering, I got my introduction to the Electric Utility Industry in early 1988 when I joined Dowty RFL as their Vice President of Engineering. I really became fascinated with the need to solve interesting technical challenges with the highest reliability in the harshest environments. From that time and until my departure from RFL, I lead the building of an extensive portfolio of new products including the 5800 Watthour Meter Calibration System, 98 series DSP based tone products, T1 multiplexer and 9300 Charge Comparison Relay, to name a few. Some of you may not be aware, but I am co-inventor of the core technology behind the operating principles of the 9300 Charge Comparison Relay.

Prior to starting Advanced Power Technologies, I was the General Manager of ALSTOM's Protection and Control operation in the USA. It was this experience that opened my eyes to the issues and problems faced by Utilities. I saw a need that I felt wasn't being satisfied by any manufacturer for products that could help utilities maintain and improve the reliability of major substation assets.

In carrying our company forward I believe in three basic principles:

1. Design products that are maintenance free.

2. Design products with outstanding value.

3. Provide products with a lifetime warranty.
